Why Cinco de Mayo? Celebrating the Underdog #yourcrminside #actcloud #cincodemayo

On this the 5th of May we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, originated from the holiday known as El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (The Day of the Battle of Puebla). That day a well armed French Army – who at that time was known as the premier army in the world – met a smaller and poorly equipped Mexican Army. However, on this May 5th in 1862, the Mexicans managed to deliver a decisively crushing blow to the French Army.  The Puebla victory came to symbolize unity and pride for what seemed like the “Mexican David” conquering the “French Goliath.”

 

It was this lesson of small conquering big that struck me to remind others why they raise a glass (or perhaps a few) to toast and celebrate on this day.  So many of us root in life for the underdog, why is that?  Many studies have been done on the subject, but one common denominator continues to shine through - people like underdogs because they believe they worked harder!

I want to make this Cinco de Mayo a day to remember this lesson and apply it elsewhere.  We will do just that at Swiftpage as May is a month of celebrations for both Saleslogix and Act!  Saleslogix launches Xbar for Outlook currently promoted at crmthreads.com (#yourcrminside) and Act! launches it’s beta of Act!
