The best social media monitoring tools every small business should know about

Social media monitoring tools can be extremely useful to help brands, companies and individuals keep up with all relevant social media activity. Today brands needs actionable insights and not just numbers or bare analytics. But with so many tools out there (with some being free and others that costs thousands of dollars a month), it’s important to find the one that best fits your business and your needs without burning a hole in the pocket!

 

Here is the short list of my favorite ones:

 

SproutSocial - is my favorite starting at only $9/month – this application is very easy to use and can make your social life way more effective by offering complete Social Media Monitoring, effective Customer Engagement and a way to measure the effectiveness of your engagement efforts. 

 

Gremln – previously known as Twaitter, another great tool (Stating at $6/month but free plan is also available), helps you keep track of all your social media accounts, allowing you to schedule posts, monitor your reputation and analyze the response to your content. 

 

Hootsuite is another popular tool starting at $5.99/month (free plan is also available) – Hootsuite is great for managing social conversations by allowing teams to efficiently track conversations and measure campaign results

 

Don’t want to do it yourself? You can outsource your social media management efforts to companies like: FanPilot or MainStreetHub

It would be nice if ACT! itself had some better social media links ... like linking directly to each contact's sm profiles after they have been identified rather then always doing the same search (like Xobni in Outlook).

 

It should notify when profiles are changed and give the option to update ACT!

 

Maybe record message sent via social media (as it does for email)... and, ultimately, provide some business intelligence on the data.

I know a few add-on developers (myself included) who were looking at this till Sage announced that they were doing it... the developers don't want to be in the position of trying to get a return on a product against something Sage might include free - like the companies who have long provided mobile sync solutions for ACT! are facing now.

 

Might be good if Sage could let us know a roadmap ... eg if nothing like this will be done in next 3-5 years, it might be worth the effort for a third-party to fill the gap and provide a solution. But, if in the plans for 2013 or 2014, it probably wouldn't.

 

The decision to compete in the mobile market, especilly with the Microsoft method of bundling it free, makes many add-on vendors reluctant to invest and keeps useful solutions from the market.
