Setting and maintaining passwords is a fundamental means of protecting your valuable Sage ACT! data. If you have ever forgotten, or lost your Sage ACT! password, you know how scary that is considering your Sage ACT! database is mission critical for so many users. This week, we’ll learn about resources you may use to troubleshoot security related issues such as a lost/forgotten Sage ACT! password.

Recovering a Lost Username or Password

If you have forgotten your password, then you will likely need to contact Sage ACT! Support during normal business hours (M-F 8:30 AM-8:30 PM Eastern Standard Time). However, there are instances where you recall your password, but are not sure of the username used to log in to the database. In that case, you may use the ACT! Diagnostics utility to determine it.

1. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.

2. Type actdiag, and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.

3. From the menu at the top, click Databases > Audit Logs.

4. Verify your database is selected in the Database list.

5. In the Event Types: list, select an event type that has been recently performed in your Sage ACT! database such as MAINTENANCE – DATABASE BACKUP, MAINTENANCE – DATABASE REINDEX, or SECURITY – PASSWORD CHANGE. Selecting an event that has recently been performed will populate the USER list.

6. Scroll down (if necessary) and locate an appropriate Username (other than ACT! System) that you can use to login to your Sage ACT! database.

If you are unable to determine your username, and/or do not remember your password, you may contact support for further assistance. For more information on contacting support to reset your password, please see Knowledgebase Article ID 14150.

Computer crashed. Need to restore backup ZIP created on original PC before being sent to external drive to new PC.  Receiving error message indicating user or password is incorrect. I am certain user is correct > how can PW be determined or reset?

I cannot get my Act 8 to release the password; so I can either reset a new one or opt out of a data base password.

I did not set one so I am not sure why it did this. Now I cannot get into ny database.

Help!!

Thanks,

Sherry Saunders

I have been wrangling with ACT for years and never understood how to use it to full capacity.  My fault.

Finally, I have alighted upon software perfect for my industry. The software itself is like having an assistant. Finally!, I thought, ACT would be out of my life.  NEWSFLASH - transporting my client details, notes ain't happening.  I am a tech ignoramous and depend on my techie friends, all of whom agree that ACT does not make anyone's life easy.

I am so fed up!

The directions to 'back up' are not working.  I am hot mad and don't want to take it out on the ACT agent.

Could someone please tell me I am stupid and direct me to a solution/contact # etc.

I am seriously desperate to be 'loosed'.  No more ACT. EVER!!!

Many thanks and forgive the rant.

I am using ACT Pro 2011. I downloaded Windows 10 which wiped out my passwords thus I cannot get into my ACT. The system does not recognize my ACT password. How can I recover my password, or do I need to re-install ACT PRO 2011?

Ted, you'll need to have a consultant crack the database password for you.

Stéphane,

Did you try the steps from this thread?

If you know the username, have you tried a blank password?

If that doesn't work, you'll need to get a Consultant to crack the password for you

ACT! lock down the database to force you to call their support and pay support fee's.

Luckily, I have found the password they use for the databases, and it is the same password for every install.

The username for the database is ACTACCESS, the password is 3FEFDF45-CBEE-4509-A6F6-2C45440337F1 and the database name is master

Just to add, if you get your hands on the password reset tools that the support people use, the password is "fixitnow"

If you need the password reset tools, let me know.

I need the password reset tool and instructions.  Have ACT! 2007 trying to open in ACT! Pro 19V

Yatra,

What version of Windows are you using?

Check to see if ACT V19 is installed correctly. Open the ACT 2017 demo database with user name:Chris Huffman, no password. If that database opens, then I suspect you have database conversion issues which is not a user name/password issue. The database may need cleanup and repair before conversion.

Did the database convert successfully from ACT 2007/V9 to ACT V19? Sometimes that is not the case and the database needs to "stair-stepped" through several pre-V19 version to complete update. Remember, this is a 10 version update for your ACT database.

Did you know the user name and password for the ACT 2007/V9 database? Upgrading the database alone from ACT V9 to ACT V19 would not change the password.

Let us know how it goes with more details.
