Adding (more) smarts to Web info in ACT! 2010

by on ‎04-21-2010 11:11 AM (3,315 Views)

It’s been exciting to see how popular the web info tab in ACT! 2010 has become.  Most users know by now that you can create your own links in web info or check out links from other users on the ACT! community.  In the ACT! Devnet Downloads forum there are several code examples showing how you can add some intelligence behind the web info feature in ACT! using nothing but HTML and Javascript.  A couple of examples:

•    Have the Facebook link directly navigate to a contacts Facebook page when you know the contact’s facebook profile URL but search for contact names for other contacts
•    Use web info feature like a file/folder explorer of your network or your local computer
•    Use only the first 5 digits of a zip code (in case you store 9 digit zip codes in ACT!) for websites like weather.com

The web info feature is also becoming a great spot to add web widgets available from popular websites (Like LinkedIN and Social Mention).  How do you use the web info feature in ACT! 2010?
