Our Bright Peak Manager, Luke Siegle, sent me this little email last week. He was inspired by it (as was I) and there many lessons we can glean from Backpacker's example.
The overall design is simple with an excellent balance of text and images.
The color scheme stays true to the Backpacker branding and inspires thoughts of the mountains at sunset (at least it did for me.) Read about why consistent branding is important here.
The preheader is short and to the point and effectively tees readers up for the call to action.
Instead of using an image as their call to action, Backpacker used a little trick by giving a table cell a color (in this case, orange) to give the illusion of a button. The bonus to this method is that it shows up even when recipients don't download images.
The social media links are easy to find at the bottom of the email and don't detract from the message of the email.
What do you think? Do you like the design? What works for you?
