When importing companies and contacts, it should be possible to have them link automatically! We are giving ACT a thirty day trial run and we are dismayed that it appears we will need to manually link hundreds of contacts and companies ... even though the company fields are identically populated in both the company and contact views. This might be the make or break reason for our company to stay with our current CRM (which does nicely handle links between companies and contacts).
For a first-timer looking at your program, I like it ... improve upon your cumbersome linking issues and I think you'll be even stronger.

This idea is a simple way to make working in ACT (2010) easier.
If you are in Contacts in the Detailed View clicking on the Contact Navbar Icon switches to List View. If in List View it switches to Detailed View.
Same with Groups, Companies ETC.
I used to be able to drag a contact (or a number of contacts) from one group to another in the group view window in ACT6. This would add the contact to another group (adds new group membership to that contact) i.e. copy.
That functuality doesn't appear in ACT11.
I would also like to be able to drag a contact (or a number of contacts) to move it from one group to another (i.e. change it's membership).
Clicking on 'Add/Remove contacts link in the group view and then searching for contacts to add/remove is so time-consuming.
This has to be made into a very simple one or two click process. I don't know how many times I get a Vcard in an Outlook email that I want to add to my database.
Very frustrating to have to enter manually.
There is so much wasted time trying to create a scheduled activity because it's so tedious trying to to associate the contact with the company/group every time. The Activity series is nice in that you can create a template with the associated group/company already pre-defined. However, there could be a better way to integrate these two things.
This is a simple example--- I have two friends I go to play racquetball with. It's never the same day/time of the week. However, it's associated with a group category called "exercise" and has two additional contacts. I really hate trying to associate this activity to the group every darn time and I hate the way activity series is set up right now. Things in ACT! a lot of times are not well thought out.
It would be nice that there be a button on the "schedule activity" form that could create a "shadow activity series" where the "schedule activity' form creates an activity series behind the scenes. That way, when I create an activity for "racquetball", I could use the pre-configured Activity Series template to create this activity that already has all the associations pre-configured.
Or the schedule activity form can have the Activity series somewhere in the "schedule Activity" form so I can pick it and it would prefill. Something, anything to shorten these steps. I cannot believe how long it takes to do things in ACT!
Sometimes when I attach emails to contacts, I will have several contacts with the same last name. In the previous version, I remember being able to:
Type in the first letters of the last name.
Then use the arrow key to scroll to the appropriate name to attach to.
Then click enter.
The way 2010 works forces me to type the name and then actually use the mouse to click the contact to attach. This is a feature that should be readded to help in attaching emails.
This functionality already works when you create an activity then use the select contacts button to select additional contacts, so you already have the technology to do it!

I would like to be able to put a group of Contacts in an automatic plan, such as "January Tradeshow" (any name I choose). Then I would define the Sales Funnel or Pipeline steps I want these Contacts to go thru. Such as Step one may be send a greeting email and then program in to call them in 3 (or any number of days I choose) and then in, say 7 days I follow up with a phone call and then say another email and so on until I have brought them thru the steps I want.
The Contacts would be added to this plan. When I open it the first time, they are all at Step 1 and they will all get a personalized email (or letter). They are then moved to Step 2 automatically. When I open the plan again and it is after the number of alloted days from Step 1 those contacts come up. As I make the phone calls (Step 2 in this example), those Contacts are moved automatically to Step 3. If I have 25 contacts in the plan and only call 7 that day, those 7 are taken out until Step 3 (the days alloted have passed). When I open the plan the next day only the 18 names are there, as they are the ones that still need a call. This continues until that Step is completed and continues on in this manner until all Contacts have moved thru all of the steps.
This would be a great marketing system and Automatic plan. The idea is that I could create as many different plan as I choose as long as they have a Different name. I then enter the plan name in maybe the ID/Status field and Sort the Contacts into the plan i want them in.
