They aren't files, they are part of the database (unless you mean the email templates?)

 

Otherwise, it couldn't know which task is for which user (especially Private ones) or set scheduled ones for a specific lookup

 

Housing them separately would only work for manually running them and manually selecting the user when you do

It would definitely be nice if we could at least view the templates.  As I mentioned elsewhere, my ST templates have been missing since Day 1, with no way to get the templates back (short of reinstallation) it would be very beneficial if I could see the default templates.

Mike, I understand roughly why it is constructed that way, in order for it to work (or not as the case may be!) however, when the ST  templates (not the email templates) go "walk about" for whatever reason which has happened to a number of people, some of whom have posted on the forum; the time involved in manually recreating them is quite substantial.

 

My problem meant I had to be on to a support agent whilst he read out each step of his templates from his machine so I could manually recreate them on my machine. (in fact I have had to do this twice).   I am going to have to take screen shots of the steps and criteria boxes which I have set up for my own ST because if they suddenly got wiped I would have to start from scratch and may not remember what worked and what didnt.

 

Uninstall, reinstall, update and unpack a databases takes a fair amount of time also and it seems crazy that is what you would have to do just to get ST templates back where they were supposed to be, or manually sit and recreate them.

 

I'm not a programmer but as a user, its a real pain.  From the forum comments it seems clear that a few people have given up on Smart Tasks altogether.  Quite a bit of Smart Task stuff needs resolution.

I have posted another query regarding clearing down the "status list" to which I think you kindly replied, but the solution, which is universally given, is not ideal nor does it seem logical to user by any means.
