As the display size of newer Phones gets larger, and mobile connections get faster the potential for accessing an ACT! database on such devices through ACT! for Web becomes more feasible.
One issue is how to see a standard screen layout on a phone. Has the time not come where the ability to create a small layout specifically for Phones and NetBooks would be really useful?
For example, the iPhone3G has a 480 x 320 display, the Nokia N900 has a 800 x 480 pixel display.
To create a "Mobile" size display requires a few changes in ACT! Those Big buttons would have to go for a start, but with a little work the concept might just be do-able.

There are more issues with using ACT! for Web... the code would need to be re-done so it's not tied to IE
Additionally, linking a web app to be able to send/record emails on the iPhone is next to impossible because of it's inability to task-switch. For other issues with the iPhone and why I prefer Blackberry, see:

But I have been playing with using RDP (Terminal Services, Citrix, etc) and logging in from an iPhone.
It's easy to re-do the layout (other than those ghastly big buttons) to be workable. while the big buttons are nice for users new to ACT!, they need an option to reduce their size and free up the screen real-estate.
It's also probably better to sync to phones so you have access when out of range. Because of this, I'd actually prefer J2X to re-do the UI in Handheld Contact to take advantage of the newer phones.
