We would love to see ACT! scan the database when we add contacts and warn us if that person already exists.
By saving us the time taken to lookup a contact, it would make our processes and the system more efficient.
One option currently available is 'Duplicate Checking'. This is found under Tools > Preferences. Then depending on the version of ACT!; either the General or Admin tab. You can set it for Contact > check Contact field. When you enter a new contact name, it will notify you if another contact with that same name exists. It won't prevent you from creating a duplicate, but will notify you of the duplicate and allow you to take action at that moment (ex: delete the new contact record, update the original record, verify they are in fact duplicates and not just 2 people with the same name).
