Granted I have a large database, but the Universal Search index files were taking up 10 GB and growing rapidly (you could literally watch the file size grow) on the server where my database is housed. I was told that these files would continue to grow indefinitely. Obviously that was not an option so I had to disable the Universal Search function. I understand the point of the feature and that it's modeled after Windows (so I was told) but the design is completely flawed if there is no way to cap the index file size or be more selective about what is indexed and how. Basically, the feature is useless (and even detrimental) for anyone that has a large database with 10+ users.
