Speaking to a customer today, they highlighted some niggles they encounter with sync. They currently synchronise 2 servers in different countries, and have a number of users sharing these respective databases. As the server initiating the sync is unattended, problems are not identified quickly.
The customer asked specifically for two things: -
Notifications for failed syncs. ACT! v16 will resolve this with the scheduler notifications feature.
Auto-retry on connection failures.
To expand on this second request, when a sync fails (usually a temporary issue with network connectivity), the next scheduled sync will not go ahead whilst the initial error is on screen. Where this is just an error connecting to the main database, the customer would like to see sync automatically retry after a set period of time.
This is probably not desirable behaviour for other sync errors, but in this specific scenario it would help the process remain as automated as possible on the server.
