I would like an area in the Nav Bar, or maybe on a separate toolbar where I could put a link to Favorite Contacts (Or Companies) in a similar way to the way you have Favorite web sites in a browser.
At any point in time you often find yourself going repeatedly back to a few key Contact records over a period of days or weeks. It would save time not to have to do a lookup when you wanted to find these.
The Back button is OK but of course you have to have done a lookup first. And yes, you could create a group, but thats not as useful. Favorites would be semi-permanent and part of your personal preferences so they are always there whenever your open ACT and would remain there until you remove them.
Yes, please!
How about the ability for a Preference setting to select up to 5 Groups as Favourites ... and these would display in a pull-down in the Nav Bar in selectable order (most Fav at top)
Then you could have Private or Shared Groups... and access all Group functions, like Rules, etc.
This also has the advantage of minimum R&D ... just a control in the UI and prefs and a table for the prefs by user.

A few years ago (or maybe 5?) I remember sharing a free ACT! 5/6 addon called "Bookmark" with an ACT! Product Manager. Bookmark provided a toolbar button that a user would click on to select and then return to a given contact.
This was a wildly popular freebie with our users since they could be working on a contact record, but then as often happens, some work disruption would occur (they would get a call, etc.) If I recall correctly the selection was sticky so their choice would survive even if they would open/close ACT!
Yes the Back button with it's valuable drop down selections is wildly valuable but a favourites button would be even more useful for maintaining workflow. The favourites button could function like the back button with dropdowns and be easily set to provide instant access to selected contacts, groups, companies (as suggested.)
This is a great feature request and I really hope it materializes in 2014!!!
