One of the luxuries of being a software applications guy rather than a software development/coding guy is that I am blissfully ignorant of the technicalities required to make something work. I'm only interested in what software can do for me and my clients and I don't really care how it's achieved.
As more and more people move to the ACT for Web or html5 user interface one issue that has come up is that most of the existing add-on products that we have come to rely on are no longer available since they only work on desktop/server implementations.
So could it not be possible to devise a system where these add-on products can work at server level yet be triggered from the web interface?
OK, I appreciate different products work in different ways, but lets take an example.
Auto-numbering / field calculation add-ons.
These can work either manually from a custom button on the screen or from field triggers. So could we make a change in a field in the web interface which triggers the update back on the server?
Could there be a way to allow any add-on icons installed at server level to appear in the mobile interface?
Would it be possible to tweak the ACT SDK so that add-on developers can design add-ons to run in this scenario?
We need and expect the functionality provided by the community of add-on developers. We need some way of enabling this functionality in the mobile user interface (s).
