Currently, there's no way to merge company information like a user can when it comes to duplicate contacts. I have ran across duplicate company records in my employer's database that were either imports where there was one little difference in the company name, i.e., Corp, Corp., Corporation, Co., Co, Company, etc. and both records ended up with contacts, history, documents, etc. Or, the company was spun off and the company under the new name is now in the database with the same contact. For example, Bob Smith originally with ABC Co. is now working for 123 Cookie Co. at the same location with a phone number that has the same area code and exchange but different extension (987-654-3200 & 987-654-2201). The old company isn't a division of the new company and shouldn't be moved under the newer company record, but the same data that is able to be merged when it's a contact should be able to be merged into the newer company record, and a special locked field attached to each record to indicate what company name the information was attached to.
