So I am using the legacy swiftpage emarketing product which when you log in on the web goes to swiftpageconnect.com. It the product before Act EMarketing! It costs me £9.95 per month and allowed 250 emails, drip marketing free and showed the Bright Peak templates offer on the lefthand side. Yes I know this is real legacy product but it works fine for what I want and we are only a 2 man business. We do not use it for marketing. We are insurance brokers and we use it in conjunction with smart tasks to send our clients reminders to complete tasks at varying points during their insurance contract. I have now asked the UK office how much the new Act Automation is going to cost and it is £53 per month add on. So instead of paying £119 per year I will be paying £636 and I am told there is no import of templates and all smart tasks must be recreated! It is a very important tool for us but in terms of volumes we only send less than 600 emails a YEAR! We now need to pay around 5 times what we were paying which to be perfectly honest is outrageous! We are told there is no alternative.
So firstly there is the cost which is pretty prohibitive and secondly I am told that even for Act Emarketing (which is the product after the one I am using) there is no import facility and that even if you try to upload html they don't always import properly plus I need to recreate all my other work so the time to be invested is quite a bit for a 2 man business. To be honest I am spitting feathers!!!
Which email client plug-in can I get to integrate with Act Premium version 21.0.295.0 Update 5 which will work with the smart tasks I have set up and does anyone know if I can import my existing smart tasks and templates.

I was in exactly your position. Looked at MailChimp and thought it was very good BUT... then I did a training call with the UK ACT support people. Basically got a tour around AMA on my screen. Started off VERY sniffy, ended utterly delighted. Have bitten the bullet, ponied up the £ and could not be more pleased. It's great, I'm doing way more with it than ever ocurred to me with Swiftpage. Very pleased.

Could you be more specific please about how you use the AMA and what you use it for? We do not use it for email maketing, because it is not something that works well in our business. We have a lot of long term customers and it is more a way of communicating with them throughout the year for various things rather than pipeline or promotion, but I have to say the old swiftpage worked brilliantly. We currently will probably send no more than 1000 emails this year and adding £635 on top of our Act subscription seems a little excessive to me for a 2 man business.
What type of business are you in Melindi?

We run trackdays. Ignoring the marketing part of our business I also have to communicate with clients about events they are booked on.
With Swiftpage I would do this with a standalone email for a specific event and various follow ups using a mixture of SP & Outlook. I've automated all of that through AMA now. It took a bit of work re additional groups to make sure the right people were getting the right stuff at the right time but it means that for rather a lot of work this month I won't need to set up various emails during the year.
However, I take your point about the v low volume you do and agree that the cost means it'd really need to add something to your business to even consider it. I'd really recommend spending 30 mins on the phone with the support guys. At worst you're no worse off, at best they identify things you could do (and explain it way better than I can)

Thanks for coming back to me. I have been onto the support guys and they suggested that I use the Act Emarketing which is now hidden in the background and fits in the middle between the old swiftpage emarketing and the AMA! However I still have to transfer everything and I am concerned how long that that is likely to continue now AMA is in the frame and am I going to have to do all the work again redoing the templates just for it to be retired itself in 6 months time?
Ref mail chimp, that was were I was looking and constant contact because I believe they are both can be 3rd party plugins to Act. Do you have any feedback you can give me on what you found out about mail chimp?

FWIW I found Act Emarketing dire. Really slow and clonky. Loved Swiftpage but did not like emarketing.
Mail Chimp was a doddle to use but didn't ever hook it up to talk to ACT. I spoke to the MC guys about it but it seemed to be a major PIA to do it. So I didn't get as far as looking at the plug ins.
Have you got loads and loads of templates? Any scope at all with ACT to do you a deal given your low volume? I can't imagine you're situation is unusual & it seems a lot of potential missed revenue

No we don't have loads of templates - but there will be a fair amount of work redoing them. We are specialist health insurance brokers and so we use smart tasks to "count" the number of days through any one clients insurance period to notify them of what they need to do at any given time prior to the renewal date bearing in mind each clients renewal date can be different throughout the year (bit like if you were using for car or home insurance).
When you say emarketing is slow or clonky - is that slow to set up the templates or is "despatch" through the server the problem or does it just not integrate to histories properly and "cut out" halfway through sending? Sorry to ask so many questions, it's just always good to find someone who is using the stuff, just so I know what to expect.

I think your process is going to similar to mine then. The "event" has a set date. Mine's a track day, yours is a renewal. We have to contact our clients at various times beforehand. That can be a set date or x many days after another thing. I also like to take an action if someone hasn't opened and read something (because men/prodding) Marketing Automation does all that very well.
Marketing automation drove me potty when creating templates. It was SO slow to upload photos. Actually emailing the stuff out was quick - it was just every action I had to take to set it up. I was used to Swiftpage which was so easy & user friendly
