I would suggest setting up new groups with dynamic membership, to ensure no contacts get missed.

This can be done by selecting Edit Criteria after clicking Add/Remove Contacts on the group detail view. For example, to create a group containing all contacts with the ID/Status of Retailer, starting with A to G, you could use the following criteria. This would automatically update the group membership as you create new contacts.

Thanks, I will give this a try. Can you tell me how to "unsegment" my contacts to start again?

The old groups you were you using to segment your contacts can be kept until you are sure you don't need them anymore, then you can safely delete them.
Contacts can exist in multiple groups.

I endorse Gary's suggestion of keeping the old groups for now as it would be good to compare numbers.
