Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

I'm exeriencing issues with my custom templates that I upload and send through the Act eMarketing Template editor (running on Act Premium, V17.1). The template editor will display my custom made template correctly, yet when I send a test email or send to a small group of internal users, the email does not come through. Specifically, users on Outlook do not see the images that make up the body of the email. They will only see the email header and footer. However, those viewing the email via a service, like gmail are able to view the images (albeit, it still does not display correctly....there are splicing issues).

In addition to the custom templates I've generated and uploaded, there are issues with images I have dropped into stock templates offered through the webplatform. Specifically, when the email is sent, Act fails to include my image in the stock template. Also there are preview issues as well, when viewing the stock template with the template preview feature. It seems to be squishing everything into a much narrower space.

Questions:

1. Are these issues a result of the update process not being complete?

2. Will users be able to upload their own templates and not have issues with it not correctly sending the images?

3. What is up with the template editor and squishing the image/not delivering stock templates with custom pics?

4. Has the width of emails changed from 580pi?

Hoping there are answers....as I have a string of emails to send to clients and all are unfortunately custom generated templates.

Re: Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

One thing I would say is if you are not sure exactly what you are looking at or have no guys in your organisation that do, don't attempt to 'wing it' and do it yourself.

You are presumably targeting potential clients/customers so it needs to be done right.

Sure, this is what I do for a living but this isn't a sales pitch from me. I would advise getting someone in to do this for you.

Of course, if you do have the knowledge within your organisation then great, you should be sorted as this shouldnt be difficult for them!

Re: Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

After additional research, our internal team has found the issue with Outlook not displaying images is related to our McAfee MX Logic service. Specifically, it capture the images and replaces them with a transpartent .gif image. We beleive that Act's method for referencing images is what sets off the spam gaurd and prevents images from displaying correctly.

Is anyone else encountering this issue? Will there be a resolution?

Re: Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

Outlook will never display images by default (unless the option to 'always display images' is selected which it will most likely never be), this is why it is a good idea to keep images to a minimum in any email template, use inline css to style things where possible. Clients like gmail will probably always display images by default.

If Outlook users are only seeing the header and footer then probably this is because the body of your email is pure images (or at least you are using a lot)

If there is a layout problem in gmail or in fact any client, 9 times out of 10 the template is not coded correctly. it may display perfectly in a browser but once you send the campaign to an email client, it can be messed up if it isn't coded correctly.

It's another one of those where it is impossible to diagnose without seeing the template. Is it possible to send me an online link to the template so I can check the code?

I would say the issues you are experiencing are more basic to fix than you may think. I think you are looking too much into it if you think this is related to your McAfee MX Logic service. I could bet my last pound it is probably a coding issue.

Re: Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

Here's a sample of the code: http://aem.spsend.com/ViewAsPage.aspx?BlastId=0a52df0b-addb-418d-a19f-7a1eb299bd97

Outlook doesn't even give the opportunity to choose to display the images. Very familiar when it does give that option at the top email header to load images....

In any case, we did find that McAfee is removing the image and replacing it with a transparent .gif. But of course happy to have your input.

Cheers!

Re: Act eMarketing: Distorting Custom Uploaded Templates & Custom Images

@dimstersf There seems to be a lot of code here that is un-needed, also there are divs used here which should never be used in email templates. Tables only! 'Code like it is 1999' is the general saying when coding email templates as email clients are light years behind modern browsers.

I just had a quick look on my laptop so can't see it too well but will have a proper look tomorrow and report back again.

A lot of the un-needed code may be down to fact this is an online link in your emarketing account, perhaps Act adds a lot of code when previewing like this but will be able to see properly tomorrow.
