upgraded from Act! 8 to Act! 11 and can't access database

I upgraded from 8 to 11 and when I try to access my database it gives me the "check your network settings" error.  My database is on the local machine,  I checked these posts and from that info, I made sure sql 7 was started in services.msc but still can't access it.  I can't access the demo database either and I can't open "actdiag" either.  Please help!!!  Thanks.

Try disabling any antivirus and firewall software.  If that doesn't work, on the ACT! CD,  copy FallbackSQLPwdReset.bat from the Dependencies folder to C:\Program Files\ACT\ACT  for Windows and run the file.  It will open a CMD prompt box then disappear.  After it has disappeared, try opening ACT! and your database again.
