in installing SP1 for ACT 13.0.401.0
I encountered this message:
ACToutlookRemove MFC Application encountered a problem and needs to close.
click here for more information lead to "actoutlookutils.exe Appver 220.127.116.11 error signature.
What is this and can it help diagnose the failures I am having calendar syncing with outlook.

To verify - this message was issued during the installation of the SP1 update for ACT! 2013, is that correct?
What is the operating system of your computer?

yes this came up at the end of the SP1 installation (part of re-installing ACT! in an attempt to figure out how to get back the outlook calendar sync that worked beautifully for a few months until outlook crashed and I had to set up a new profile).
Using Windows XP service pack 3
other symptoms - Outlook does not appear on the list of email clients (outlook express does, eudora does, internet does)
Attempting to sync calendar starts off normally appears to find Outlook, then gives 'failed' message.

I would try an uninstall/reinstall of Sage ACT!. See your Private Notes for a link to download the full install files for Sage ACT! 2013 containing the SP1 update.

There may be a conflict with other programs occurring during the installation. I recommend the following:
Reinstall with AntiVirus and Firewall disabled:
1. Uninstall Sage ACT!
2. Browse to C:\Program Files > rename folder 'ACT' to 'ACT - old'
3. Reboot computer
4. Disable Antivirus and Firewall software
5. Install Sage ACT!
An alternative to step 4 is to restart in Selective Startup, this will reduce the background processes to the bare minimum. For instructions see article: KB Article 14173
