If I paste an updated email address into a clients' record in ACT (Sage ACT! Pro 2013 Version 126.96.36.199 with SP1 applied/Windows 8 64bit) I get a "value cannot be null" error message. It then shows the record with a few fields empty. I have to close ACT and restart. Then the client record is there with the new updated email address.
