"The file exists" Does anyone have an idea why I'm getting this message?

When I send an email which I've set up to record to history in ACT, I get the error message "The file exists".

The email goes through, but it isn't recorded in ACT.

I found a possible resolution on Microsoft's website.

https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=284553

Try clearing out temp files.

Go to Start -> Run.  Type in %temp%

Delete the contents inside and try again.

Lowden358,

Is that the exact error message?

Which version of ACT! (Help | About ACT!) and e-mail system are you using?

DLunce,

Yes, that's the exact message. Nothing else.

 We use 2008 10.0 and Office 2003.

The email will go through to the recipient, but it won't be saved in ACT.

Thanks.

[ Edited ]

I ran into that message ("the file exists" ) last week dealing with a QuickBooks issue for a customer. Ironically, had to come looking for fix for Act as well.

The issue turned out to be a permissions issue. The file causing the message could be used but not written to and it affected other files it deals with as well.  Heres the link I found at Intuit-

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/pages//KnowledgeBaseArticles/1006428

The issue that led me to the fix I was dealing with, not printing but similar problem. The issue I had was caused from a drive failure in the server array and subsequent server crash and unexpected change to a new domain controller.

The temp files issue seems as though it could also have very similar symptons to the one I had with permissions. Hope this helps.
