"The database could not be accessed."

I received this message and all of the fixes I have seen on the knowledge base and this community forum refer to a shared database, network connection, or server which do not apply.  I have none of those.  I have also disabled the firewall and that did not help.  I have only had this problem, with ACT 2012.  I would appreciate any advice.  Please e-mail me at

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Community. For a local database, the most common cause for this error is that the SQL Server service is not running. Please see the following KB article for a solution:
