problem syncing to remote database - publisher and subscriber are on the same computer

Getting the error message unable to sync, check to see network is connected etc.  It is ACT 2011 pro, and the main database and remote are on the same computer albeit the main is on a networked drive.  I have installed hotfix 6 and we are having no problem syncing with a remote database that is on another computer in the network.

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

 

Since you are running Sage ACT! Pro, you will not able to synchronize a subscriber (remote) with the publisher (main) when they are on the same computer.  Synchronization with the Pro version is referred to as 'Application Sync' - this requires that the main database be open at the time of the synchronization.  Since only 1 database can be open at a time, synchronization from the same computer is not possible.  

 

Note: The Premium version of ACT! contains additional sync options (Network and Internet sync), which allow synchronization with the main database while it is closed.  These sync options would allow the main and remote to synchronize when both are located on the same computer.

can the main database be using premium and the salespeople (me and one other) be using pro?

Unfortunately not.  All installations must be on the same version and build (this applies to shared and synchronizing databases).
