natash223 Requested Response Via eMail

Has anyone received a private message from a new user asking to be contacted directly by eMail instead of responding via the forum.  On the surface, it looks a little suspicious.

Any history of something like this in the community?

Got a PM myself as well from that "account".
Just sent an angry email to a few people in SPI. This is a new dimension of abuse in the community. Got used to bogus users and bogus posts, but this is too much.

They've already been banned.  I didn't see this post, but I did get the abuse notification.  Gary in our UK office removed them.  Continue reporting people for abuse if you see this behavior.  Since it's in a private message it's harder for us to track those, of course, so I appreciate the post.  I haven't come across that type of spam on here before.

I also had one more email after they were banned. Maybe they reapplied under a slightly different name but looks the same.

Re: natash223 Requested Response Via eMail

I normally don't revive an old thread like this, but I found some answers.

When we ban a user, it sometimes takes a little time for the ban to fully take effect.  I don't know why that happens, but it's just "how it is".  The process of removing all of the messages is a bit more reliably fast, but is still a queue'd item, but takes about ten minutes to go through.

Here are some things that I really want you to understand:

  • There are very few people at Swiftpage that can ban users, so many times emailing people will take a long time.
  • We don't read every thread that goes on here, so we wouldn't see the large red letters

Please use the in-forum reporting feature!

I'm going to change around my email filters today so that those abuse reports are more visible to me, and I'll keep my Ban-Hammer warmed up.  I've started an internal discussion to see if there is anything we can do to help combat the spammers head on.
