moving database to server

Have a 5 user license of act! 2008. One user has created a database on a laptop. We want to move these files to a server so that the rest of the office can use the database without the laptop being in the office. Have tried backing up the database and using the transfer wizard but come across the mapped volume error. How can we get the files over and share out to all the other clients?

Re: moving database to server

Try this.  First, use ACTDIAG to detach the database on the laptop.

Next, copy all the files associated with the database EXCEPT the .PAD file.  This means the .ADF, .ALF and the full supplemental file folders.  The folder will be in the same folder as the ADF and ALF files.

Move those files to the server.

Open ACT and then find the ADF and click on it.   This will "attach" the database to the SQL instance.

Then, once it's open, make sure you click on TOOLS - Database Maintenance - Share this database.

That should work.
