error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException:

hi

has any one seen this error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException: Exception of Type ‘Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoestntExistException’ was thrown. at Prereq.AccessINI.GetValue(StringKey, StringValueName) at Prereq.Program.Main(String[] args).
when installing verison 10 on xp machine

looks like a sql problem

cant go past this even when

used the uninstaller
removing sql from add/remove programs
deleting the sql and act folders
manually remove act as well

still comes up at the start of installation

please advise

Re: error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException:

Hello,

Actually this exception, at least on the surface, has nothing to do with SQL.  The ACT! installer Prereq component can't find a value in its configuration .ini file.

What do you have in your installer log file?  C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ACTInstLog\ActWindows.log  There should be entries such as:

Before calling Pre-Req on the first run:22:31:38
After calling Pre-Req  on the first run:22:31:45

Are there any more detailed error messages after the log entry "Before calling Pre-Req..."?  Maybe it says something about which key AccessINI.GetValue can't find?

Also, are you installing from a CD?  Or a network location?  XP or Vista?  Are you an administrator on the machine?

Re: error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException:

This is a procedure I wrote to get the most clean install possible:
Uninstall any version of ACT! from Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Use the Uninstaller.exe from the ACT! KB 19338 (the exe, not the manual uninstall)
Uninstall .Net Framework (all versions) - this does NOT apply to Vista users as .Net 2.0 is part of the OS and can't be uninstalled
Uninstall any MS SQL items from the Control Panel if istill there
Uninstall MSXML Services from Control Panel if it's still there
Perform a Selective restart with MSCONFIG as per ACT! KB 14499
Install .Net 2.0 Framework from MS web site (only for XP, not Vista)- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en
Manually install MS SQL as per ACT! KB 19386
Install ACT! 10
Install ACT! 10.01 patch if the previous install was the previous build
Restore from Selective Startup Mode with MSCONFIG
Reboot

The benefit of this procedure is that the Framework and SQL are installed individually and will show if the problem is with them or the ACT! install

The SQL instance for ACT! is called ACT7 in all versions 7.0 to 10.0

Re: error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException:

The error is saying that one of the COM objects isn't registered in the system. It seems to be a really common error with Activesync from a Google search and no definative solutions.

Maybe you have a previous version of WMDC installed?

Try going to the Add/Remove programs control panel and removing WMDC and delete the folder. Then install it again from the download package available from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

Personally, I don't use the link as I prefer the better functionality of Handheld Contact - you might try the 14 day trial you can download from that link

Re: error : Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesn’tExistException:

Re 1... as I said, my experiance with the PPC link is limited because I don't use it. Did you follow all the steps according to this article in the Knowledge Base - http://tinyurl.com/ytzw4r

2. I don't have a double-sided printer. Are you talking about reports or word templates?
