can't register ACT! Pro v20

Good morning.

 

I have been trying to Register ACT! v20 and now only have 2 days left.

 

I am unable to Register via the web (fails).  Tried via email.  I have received the email with activation code but this will not register either.

 

Error 'Unable to Register ACT! please contact technical support'

 

  • ACT! Pro v20 update 7.
  • Windows 7 Pro
  • 2 user ACT! license shared on Windows 7 Pro machine
    • Neither machine will register.
  • ACT! support confirm we have activations available.
  • I am logged on as Windows Administrator
  • Right click ACT! and run as Administrator
  • Firewall and AV have been disabled
  • Protexis is running and has been re-installed
  • UAC set to 'never notify' (lowest level)
  • Logged on as different Windows Adminstrator to check Windows Profile
  • Web browsing does work.
  • ACT! support have logged in and still unable to register.

I can provide serial No and Activation code if needed.

 

Any advise greatly received.

it appears that after the first failure and having to re-install Protexis we needed a different activation code.  This was missed the first time I spoke with tech support when they remotely connected to check out the machine.  Anyhow.  New codes and we are up and running.

Hi David,

I'd recommend calling our technical support line on 0845 268 0220 - they'll be able to run through a phone registration, and if that fails, they should be able to advise on fixing the underlying problem. Registration issues are always supported, even without a support contract.

thanks from the prompt response.

 

I have spoken with support/registration before.  They remote connected and were still unable to register.  I have since:

  • uninstalled ACT!
  • used the uninstaller.exe
  • manually removed SQL
  • manually removed Protexis ( and updated registry)
  • Re-install ACT! from fresh download

Still unable to register via internet or manually via email.  Have not spoke to support since as I am not on-site till Monday but was looking for other ideas.

Would you mind sending me a private message with your serial key?

I'll make sure the key itself is valid.

You said you've tried email registration - you might recall part of this process generates an 'install code'. Did this generate successfully, or was it blank?

Hi David,

Thanks for your PM - I've checked out your serial key and everything seems fine, I can't see any issue with the key itself.

As you've already performed all the steps I would usually recommend in this situation, unfortunately there's not much more I can advise on. It's unusual that none of the steps you've tried have resolved the issue - there's clearly something preventing the registration in your environment - but an email registration does not register

I really would advise calling our tech support team and advising them on what steps you've already taken, they should be able to directly investigate error logs and such to try and find the source of the problem. WE may be able to try using a different serial number - everything seems to check out with the current one but it's worth a try.

Could I register on another Windows 7 machine then copy the license file across?  or can you manually create the file with help from tech support?

Unfortunately not, the installation code and registration files are created using a Hash specific to that machine - there's be no way to create the files outside of that machine itself.
