Word wrap on a character field

It looks like the only way to get a comments field to word wrap in a detail view is to make it a memo field. Is that correct?

So our comments character field is 75 characters, if I change it to a memo field will I lose anything?

Do we lose any functionality in making it a memo field?

Still able to print this field on reports?

Just would like to be sure before I make the change.

Re: Word wrap on a character field

Hello suewhoserves,
You should be able to convert a character field to a memo field without losing data.
- Back up your database
- Go to Tools > Define Fields
- Double-click the field to convert
- Change the data type in the dropdown to Memo and follow the prompts
- After you save the changes, you will need to go to Tools > Design Layouts > Contact and enlarge that field to accommodate the size of the data
