We have a couple of XP laptops running Office 2010 and Sage Act Pro 2011. We are running SP1 and the office hotfix, and have word as the default word processor.
When we "write" a "letter" it fills everything in fine but will not let us save as a docx, only .doc or adt
This is possibly linked to losing "quickparts" access as well, which we have brought in from autotext.
Where Does ACT Pro 2011 get normal.dot or normal.dotx from?
Newer laptops that that have only ever seen Word 2007 or 2010 are OK, which makes me think it is a normal.dot issue.

We were able to gix this issue on our systems by removing the ACT Addins that are attached to Word 2010.
Once we did we were able to open the Templates like normal but then we could save them in the default .docx format.
Not sure why this works except it seems the Act Addins must not fully support the .docx format so it removes that option.
