Rented for $19/mo, which is $228 per year. It's effectively an enormous price hike with no consideration of an upgrade option for prior owners. I have owned at least 5 different versions of ACT over 17 years. This is a slap in the face and I will not take it.

I understand that ACT! Pro is not a subscription software and is available through other sales channels such as Act! Certified Consultants in your area. You will find a list of them here http://acc.swiftpage.com/

Something which may be helpful to others experiencing the problems described in this thread....
Since I was unable to send emails from Act! after upgrading to Windows 10, this morning I uninstalled Act! then reinstalled it from the previously downloaded .exe file, which I had written to a CD. Then I upgraded to the latest version, using the Help / Act! Update menu option.
After it finished, I tested the ability to send emails from within Act! using templates. It has worked 4 times and failed once with the same message as before. The failure makes me nervous, as this is an essential function for me, but it was failing 100% of the time before the reinstall, so this is an improvement.

I had updated to win10 and tried to use the remote database, had the same errors. -made ACT7 enabled in startup (via task manager) - so no problem there. And the consensus seems to be the Object ref message on close is of no issue (but there's no idea why the error comes up - it's fairly long after closing the program, so must be something to do with SQL).
I did have to roll back to win8.1 as the graphics driver had an issue, that had it's own problems, but act! ran fine (what I need it for anyway) after that.

Trying to install Act 16 on new Windows 10 computer but the install fails. On reboot, fit says there's a problem and Windows can't boot. Forces me to revert to sysem image. Any idea why Act won't install under Windows 10?
