Update. I decided to create a "new" database. When I opened it, it obviously was blank. I then clicked on open/share database. When I clicked on the database I needed, it loaded fine.
I am not sure why it kept asking for user name and password as I have never set those items up. I would have to think it is because many users are on a VPN or have their database in the cloud. I use my database on my own PC, nothing else.
The company I work for uses SalesForce which all information in kept on the server.

I upgraded last night to Win 10 from Win 7 Pro. Everything went ok except for ACT! 16. It would not open a database because the SQL instance for ACT! 7 was not started. This has been a recurring issue in the past. Probably because I have MalwareBytes program running at boot up. No Issue as I just open the SQL configuration program and manually start the ACT!7 instance.
After Win 10 upgrade, no configuration tab was available to open to start the ACT!7 instance, and I also had error messages that SQL Server 2008 R2 is not compatible with Win 10. I uninstalled ACT! 16 Pro and all of my Act! add-ins. Then uninstalled the SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2005.
I then restarted my computer, reinstalled ACT! 16 and my add-ins. All seems to work fine, except it seems a littler slower. I still get warning messages that SQL 2008 R2 is not compatible with Win 10.
It appears thet ACT! 16 is not going to get an update to run on Win 10. I am not planning to upgrade to ACT! 17 or a subscription based ACT!. Is this where we jump off the wagon and return to paper based planners? I have a lot of time and money invested over the years with ACT!. All the way back to 1999, whatever version that was. When the SQL versions come along, ACT! really took a hit on performance for several generations. I also miss the Side-Act as well.

Well said. I am in the same boat and have been a long time ACT customer. Sales said that the Windows 10 compatible version may come out in September/October for around $390. I'm thinking of Sales Force.

Seems odd, Microsoft are blogging that SQL 2005 users should look to upgrading refer http://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2015/04/13/are-you-still-running-sql-server-2005-now-is-the-time-to-... but have not made a statement about it not being compatible with Windows 10. You would think SQL 2008 would have some time to go yet.

I am up and running fine now with ACT! 220.127.116.11, Hot Fix 2. I assume the uninstall and reinstall of ACT! 16, add-ins, and SQL process fixed whatever was causing my problem. It seemed slow to begin with after reinstall, but has returned to pre-Win10 performance. Maybe the Durkin Suite 6 add-in needed some time to adjust.
As far as SQL 2008 R2, I was getting incompatibility warnings from the Win 10 notifications panel at first. The warning has gone away the past 24 hrs. Haven't seen it since.
