I am currently having issues with my Outlook history not being saved into each contacts file.
I looked at the database type when ensuring the contacts where added correctly into Outlook and noticed there are two file types; .alf and .pad
Outlook is only recongizing the .pad file. Which has led to (2) questions
1) Is the database supposed to be the .pad?
2) If so, why would ACT! be saving the database in a .alf format?
I would greatly appreciate any help, since I am very confused.

There are 3 file types associated with your database.
.pad - which is a pointer (shortcut) file that opens an act database at the location specified within the file. You can take a look at it in notepad if you like
.adf - this is the actual database, Act's version of .mdf which is the default extension for SQL databases
.alf - this is the log file associated with the database
I know this doesn't solve the outlook history issue but hopefully it will clear up any questions regarding the file extensions associated with your Act database.

I'm just guessing, but what about re-applying your most recent ACT! update / Hotfix?
Is your ACT! Quick Attach Toolbar showing up in your outlook toolbars?
