How many records can a database hold and run with relatively good speed?

While I'm not an engineer, I have seen this question asked and answered before. 


It depends.  (What did you expect)


You are limited to the size of your hard drive.  In a single user environment, that should show no degradation with today's computers, HDD, and HDD Cache.


On the other hand, in a multi user environment the number of users will ultimately affect performance.  I would expect that some of the engineering gurus that frequent this board may jump in with some limiting numbers. 


BTW, my storage specialist once told me that when the HDD reaches 45% full it should be considered full and performance is guaranteed to drop off at that point.
