Usin An External HDD for ACT Sync

Hello everyne.  Well, I've gone a messed up my main compuer to the point I have to send it in to IT.

The good news is that I have an external backup that s up to date from the damaged computer.

I have also been running a remote db on a 2nd compter that has not sync'dyet

1.  Can the remote db and the host db be on the same system and sync?

2.  Is there any way I can use an external HDD to manage the syncing?

3.  Is there a question I should have asked?

Thanks n advance for your response

No, the ACT install for the Publisher is tied to the computer name of the other computer. You can not just move the external hard drive to the other machine and sync the database.

1. Yes, but you'll need to reset the Publisher and Subscribers for the changed machine name
2. Not advisable ... SQL needs to be live and will have problems if you start your machine without the HDD

John,

When you get your computer back do a restore As to the new setup but you will need to recut the remote for the second machine.

If you want to synch then one way is to use Hamachi to create the tunnel to the second machine and there is even some instruction on this in the KB

Re: Usin An External HDD for ACT Sync

I had set up Hamachi, but my company computer apparently is blocking the connection.  My use of ACT is rogue and not supported by our IT department.

I also tried to join the hom network, but was unsuccessful dong that as well.

Thanks so much for your suggestion.

Re: Usin An External HDD for ACT Sync

John, Have you tried with the Publisher at home and making an outgoing connection from work? Often it's only incoming connections that are blocks and/or IT won't port forward

You could do a test with Hamachi in that way before moving the database
