Re: Upgrading from v8 to v20. Can't open database

Andreas is correct, I misread this post as being about Act v18 - sorry.

You'll need to upgrade the database to a lower version first - before finishing off the upgrade. This is because there is no 'direct update path' from SQL 2000 to SQL 2014, we need to go through SQL 2005 or 2008 first.

Are you using Pro or Premium? I can send you a download link that will work as an intermediate version - just install that version, open the database and let it upgrade, then install v20 and open the database again. What version of Windows are you using?

V20 is Pro. I'm not sure if the old v8 was pro or premium. I don't have the old laptop with me today. Will that be a problem?

If you can provide a download link to an intermediate version that will convert this DB that would be great!

It shouldn't be a problem - it's just that if you'd been upgrading to v20 premium we'd need to use an older version of premium - since you're upgrading to Pro it shouldn't matter either way.

Please find below a download link to Act! Pro 2012:
http://cdn.act.dlm.swiftpage.com/2541/act_pro_2012_us_ca_la.exe

This should be able to act as an intermediate version to get your database upgraded.

Glad you were able to upgrade successfully! The $5 is not necessary, we're here to help any time.

Feel free to donate it to the charity of your choice if you'd like.
