Upgrading 2008 to 2012 and Changing Computers

Hello everyone,

I'm currently using Sage ACT! 2008. However, I will be moving to a new laptop and it has Windows 7 64-bit. I noticed 2008 will not work on windows 7 64-bit so I was looking into what would be the best method to make this move to the new laptop work properly.

I was thinking to upgrade to 2012 on my original laptop and then make the move to the new laptop with Windows 7. Is there something I'm overlooking? Any tips or suggestions?

Personally I would not do it that way, you are making more work for yourself - installing ACT! 2012 twice, etc.

If you are the only user in your system, here's what I would do:

Backup the database on the old system.

Install 2012 on the new system.

Restore the 2008 backup on the new system, it will then update it to the 2012 format.

Finis.

Now you have your 2012 version on the nice shiney 64bit super system and still have 2008 intact on the old if you wanted to refer back for some reason (not sure why, but you can).

Should be simple!
