With Vista and Windows7 even if your Windows Username is set as 'administrator' you have restricted access. Here are the steps to resolve this message:
- close Act!
- right click on Act! icon > select Properties
- select Compatibility tab
- at bottom of tab > enable the box for 'Always Run as Administrator'
- click OK to apply and close the window
- open Act! as normal (double click on icon) > it is now set to run as administrator and you should be able to install the update
If this option is not available on the Compatibility tab, do this: right click on Act! icon > select Run As Administrator. This does the same thing but you'd have to do it each time you launch Act!.
