I am trying to open ACT Pro 2013 and I am being asked to register the software because the trial version has expired. Makes no sense; I bought the software years ago. How can I open ACT?

That certainly sounds like strange behaviour if the program has been working fine for a year, and it's just now asking you to register. Have you tried entering your serial key and simply re-registering the software?
Often in order to register you'll need to run Act! with Administrator rights (Close Act! > Right Click the Act! Icon > 'Run as Administrator')

Jon, I tried entering the serial # you so graciously provided me but it was not accepted. The 30 day countdown continues.
I hope I don't have to buy another version of the software.

You can check the version you have by going to the menu Help | About Act! and a Window will pop up with the information.
