Trasnferring a layout from one database to another-layout doesn't work in new database

I created a new layout in one database with 13 new fields. Everything worked fine. Copied the new layout to a different database. All 13 fields showed, but were not operable. They were gray and no data could be entered.

Have to load this into other salesmen computers so I need to find out how to solve this.

Thanks in advance,

Layouts that are based on databases with custom fields aren't portable. You can add the fields to the other database and then link them in the layout editor or make an empty copy of the database where the alyout was created.

Thank you,

I understand what you're saying. But what is accomplished by making an empty copy of the database where the layout was created?

Re: Trasnferring a layout from one database to another-layout doesn't work in new database

Hello Mark,
Welcome to the Sage ACT! User Community. Layouts are database-specific. If you copy a layout from one database to another, then the field assignments for customized fields in the layout will be broken, since they do not exist in the other database. To link these fields, then open the layout designer in the second database (Tools > Design Layouts > Contact), locate the fields where the white box is empty, double-click the white box, and select the field to link. For the other users, if they are using remote databases, these changes should sync over. If they are using unique databases, they will need to repeat the steps above.
