Transfer database from one computer to another

What is the best way to transfer a database from one computer to another?

I am using V19 on a computer with Windows 7 and want to transfer that database to my other computer, with windows 10. I have installed Act on that computer. I would like both computer to synchronize the databases.

  1. When I tried to look up an answer in Help from ACT I get a blank Explorer window. I mostly use Chrome, so maybe there is a problem there.
  2. Where is the database and backups stored? When I create a backup is says it stores it in Documents/ACT/ACT Data/Backup, but i don't see files there? Do I need to first unzip the folder?
  3. When I save the backup to a flashdrive I do see act contacts and personal zip files. When i put that flashdrive into the other computer and try to open an existing datbase, i can find the flash drive, and other files there, but dont see the zip files?

Hi mbenwitt,

When opening a database from a backup, don't use the "Open existing database" option, instead go to File > Restore > Restore As...

If you do this, you should be able to open the zip file backup!

If you get stuck, check here for more information:

Re: Transfer database from one computer to another

Thanks, that was easy! I did the same thing for personal files.

Can I sync between two computers?
