Trail version can't create new database

We just installed the trial version of Act!2010 on a new computer with windows vista home premium.  The demo database seems to work fine, but when we try to create a new database for our own data, we get an error: "Customized cultures cannot be passed by LCID, only by name".  Any advice?

Re: Trail version can't create new database

Hello colorhelper,

Welcome to the ACT! Online Community. In regards to error message you are getting when creating a new database, try these steps:

  1. Close ACT!
  2. Launch Windows® Explorer (or open My Computer).
  3. Browse to the following folder: C:\Windows\Globalization
  4. Locate the file gd-GB.nlp, right-click on it and select Rename. Add .old to the end of the filename.
  5. Close Windows Explorer (or My Computer).
  6. Launch ACT!.
  7. Test creating a new database.

If you do not see the specific file gd-GB.nlp, then look for en-US-1.nlp or nokiatl-ph-nokia.nlp instead and rename them.

    • C:\Windows\Globalization
  4. Right-click the gd-GB.nlp file, and click Rename from the shortcut menu. Add .old to the current name
