Top Producer to ACT - importing fields

Hi,

I'm switching from Top Producer (web version) to ACT! 2010 Standard. I have a CSV file that I want to import into act. I have a few questions before I move forward:

1. Most of the CSV fields are pretty standard except for:

    A. "Spouse",

    B. "Family Member Relation" (eg son, daughter, etc),

    C. "Family Member's Name".

    D.  Letter Saluation (eg "Dear XXX", Dear "XXX and YYY").

Does ACT! Standard have these fields built in and can I create them easily through Custom Fields?

2. In your experience, does ACT's built-in importer do a pretty good job or will I have to use a 3rd party tool?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Top Producer to ACT - importing fields

A is a standard field

B/C are more complex as there can be more than one

D is a standard field

ACT! importer is fine for adding new records. It's not that good if you need to update records already in ACT! or if you need to update info in sub-tables (Secondary Contacts, History, Sales Ops, etc)

You might need a 3rd-party importer... it really depends on the formats for B/C and how you decide to handle them in ACT!

Thanks Mike that's what I needed to know... There is only 1 of each for B/C so I think this should be straightforward. Thanks for your advice
