The database Company file cannot be accessed

I am getting this message: "The database Company file cannot be accessed. In order to access the database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It maybe necessary to disable any firewall software on your computer or the server." So my computer IS the server, I have all of my firewall software off and I still cannot access the database. I don't know what the problem could be now or how to troubleshoot. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: The database Company file cannot be accessed

If you were able to access the database before, then it is most likely the Microsoft SQL service is stopped.  To check and start it:

- click on the Windows Start button

  - if XP > select Run

  - if Vista or Win7 > use the 'Search' window

- enter the command 'Services.msc' and hit enter

on the Services screen:

- scroll to find 'SQL Server (Act7)'

- look in the column labeled Status

- if it is blank, right click on the service and select 'Start'

Now open the Act! program and your database.

Re: The database Company file cannot be accessed

Thank you for the guidance.  I did exactly what you said and my database opened perfectly!

I ran into this issue after I encrypted my laptop.
