The Database __ could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available.
I am running ACT2012 on Windows 7. My Fiirewall is off & I have not renamed my computor. I can not open one of my Databases, which is the main database and has two remote database off of it.
I can open an older database that is still on this computor, but my current Database will not open, and I keep getting this error message.
I have checked to make sure the Computor name is right on the PAD, The firewall is off, and the SQl's are running.

If you can open databases physically located on the same computer as the problem database, I would try recreating the PAD file. To do this:
- browse to the location of the database
- rename the PAD file associated with the database (ex: add '-old' to the end)
- launch Sage ACT!
- select option to open database (ex: File > Open database)
- change 'files of type' to ADF
- browse to database location and select ADF
- PAD will be recreated as database is opened

I tried the fix you suggested but I get another error message:
"The SQL Database Service is not started."
I click OK
"Object reference is not set to an instance of an object."
I click OK and ACT! closes.
I undertatnd that these are words from the English language, but I have no idea what they mean.

Not enough info but will try to help if you still need it.
re your first error msg; close all apps.
start / run / services.msc
scroll down list and start the sql act 7 server service thingy..
not knowing your exact version of act ( help / about), cannot offer much more info at this time.
What ever version of act you ar using, insure you have most recent service pack and hotfixes in place for all users.
Manually install - reference link http://act.com/support/download-center/ cheers - FSBill
