Although you can schedule a phone call from the toolbar or use a button in the toolbar for a phone dialer it appears you have to go into record history and select call to record a manual phone call. Is there an add on or macro which could put a button on the toolbar to simplify recording this simple task?

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Community. I don't know of a macro that can perform the entire history recording process, but the simplese way within ACT! is to click the big History button on the toolbar. You are proably seeing that this defaults to the Appointment history type, but that can be changed to defaulting to Call by installing a free add-on, which you can download from HERE. So you wold just click History, put in your Results, Regarding and Notes and save.
Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

you could use AutoHotKey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) and then use the following snippet (macro) to create a history.
#h:: ; WIN-H will activate the Sage ACT! Premium window if it is open and then open a record history window IfWinExist Sage ACT! Premium WinActivate Send ^h Return
By changing the line "IfWinExist Sage ACT! Premium" to "IfWinExist Sage ACT! Pro" would make it work for Sage ACT! Pro.
