Every time I sync my ACT 2012 calendar with Outlook 2013 I get a failed synchronization error from the ACT integration process.
Now when I try to select the preferences they are greyed out in the window and I can't select any preferences.
How do I fix this?

ACT! 2012 and Outlook 2013 are not compatible with each other. In order to use ACT! with Outlook 2013, you would need ACT! 2013 Service Pack 1 or higher.
In a supported environment, I would recommend the following knowledgebase article for the preferences being grayed out:
However, bear in mind that due to the incompatibility, you may not be able to get the synchronization to work at all.
