Sharing database

Can someone tell me the best way for us to share up-to-date contact information.

We have the basic SAGE 10.0 (2008) program and would like to begin sharing information. Do we need a server or web program to share files. Or is it simply a case of saving and emailing work to each other....

PLEASE HELP????

Re: Sharing database

Probably the easiest way would be to get Hamachie to set up a VPN (the free version would probably work for you):

https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en

Then set up Application Sync as per this ACT! Knowledge Base article - http://tinyurl.com/4koj89

Re: Sharing database

Can I accomplish the same by backing up the master with a flash drive and then restoring it on my secondary (laptop)

database?

Also does the path have to be the same on both databases? If that is true what is the best way to change the file path?

Re: Sharing database

The Backup won't work if you want to use bath systems at the same time... and will be more time-consuming and risky in the long term than setting up sync correctly at the beginning.

The path doesn't have to be the same on the two systems.

To change the path, you need to backup - then restore | Restore_As

Re: Sharing database

Thanks.

I tried to synch. Both my desktop (XP) and laptop(Vista) are set up as Publisher. Does that need to be changed? If so how is that done?

Created a remote database on desktop but I am unable to find it on my laptop. I have e-mailed but when I open the file it doesn't

add any new information. Just opens up the existing file.

Re: Sharing database

Backup the database you want to be the remote.

Restore | Restore_As on the Publisher machine and import it into the main database as per this ACT! Knowledge Base article - http://tinyurl.com/4rqtn7

Then cut the remote for the other system

Make sure you remove the database from the remote so the user doesn't accidently enter data in the wrong db

Re: Sharing database

Forgot to click the e-mail box below...I think I''ve got it except for one last thing.

When I unpack the rdb it is asking me for a user name and password. Since I don't recall

ever setting any...How can I make that go away?

Thanks,

Art
