Setting up a 10 user shared data base

[ Edited ]

Right now I have 8 copies of act 2007 V9 running on PC's with XP/XP-pro and 2 Act 2008 V10 running on vista.  I would like to put a singel shared DB on a NAS stand alone 500GB HD that plugs directly into my router (100mps ethernet).

A. If I need to down grade the two PC's with vista I will if Act V9 does not support the newer .PAD file?

B. Will this work on the NAS System HD?

C. Anything else to buy?

Like most small business I have a small budget.

Also, you can't share a database between ACT! 9 and ACT 10 - you'll need to have 10 Premium licenses of one of the versions

Re: Setting up a 10 user shared data base

1. You can't run SQL databases on a NAS drive as they need to be on a local drive to the server application

2. For 10+ users, you need to use the Premium version for ACT!

If I had 9 copies of Ver. 9 which is a .DBF file could I than use the NAS drive.  I need to prove to the boss the ROI by sharing one DB.

Then I can ask for the $$$ needed to upgrade to an SQL server and run ACT! Pro 2009 ver. 11.

So if I want to run a shared DB with Ver. 9 I would need an SQL server or can I use an extra PC in a peer to peer network?

ACT! 7.0 and later includes SQL server, so yes... if you have a decent machine (RAM and HDD speed), you can run it peer-to-peer
