Search Computer From Within ACT

Is there any way to do a search from within ACT for files that are not in ACT?

I would like to do a search on a directory that has all price lists to find which price list has the specific item in question.

Many thanks in advance for the community's expertise.

Probably not; there seems to be a stupid limitation for the length of the string, which only exists in the WEBINFO TAB Smiley Embarassed

Try to put the file://.... string into a new ACT! field of the type "internet", eventually copy it to all records and make that the default value for the field, so that new contacts will have the link from the field available as well.

Re: Search Computer From Within ACT

This isn't something that's possible with the base version of Act, but of course, there could be addons that would do this.

There's none that come to mind immediately, but then I'm not overly familiar with what addons are out there these days - perhaps one of the ACCs here on the forum could recommend something?

Hi John & Jon,

here’s the trick:

Go to your WEBInfo TAB

Create a new entry for a Website (in my case I named it hd for hard disk)

 weblink 1.jpg

Edit the URL and put the following into it: file://c:\

 weblink 2.jpg

This will open an explorer window within ACT!:

Re: Search Computer From Within ACT

That worked at the root C: level.

I tried the following:

file://C:\Users\johnn\Documents\ACT\ACT Data\Databases\Personal_4-database files\Attachments

I can get as far at ...Documents\ACT but no further.

Is there a way to get all the way to the attachments folder?

Many thanks.

Re: Search Computer From Within ACT

This is perfect.  Now that I'm in the destination folder, I can use the Windows Explorer search field.
