Scheduled Backup Problem "Failed to log into the database."

Re: Scheduled Backup Problem "Failed to log into the database."

One possible answer could be that the backup is taking longer than the time you have allotted between backups - therefore, it can't login because it is already backing up.

Try with the attachments selected and not have it set to every 2 hours.

Re: Scheduled Backup Problem "Failed to log into the database."

[ Edited ]

I've begun to get this error too.

Here's my message:  "Errors: Failed to log into the database. The process cannot access the file '8da66a43-4729-417c-922a-fe0934875242.tmp' because it is being used by another process.
Backup Filename and Path: F:\ACT\ACT! Sales.zip"

A manual backup failed.

Error message:

Act Error.jpg

I can't help but think the two are related.

Any suggestions?

John,
How large are the database files, and how much space is on the C: drive? Even if pointing the backup to a different drive, the temp file will be created on C:.

Can you backup the demo database?

Regarding available space, that may be a key problem.  I amy only at 4GB out of 320GB drive.  Looks like I need to do a lot of house cleaning.

To answer your other questions, though, The total backup is a little over 2GB.  I'm not sure how to measure the actual db size.  The total of the PAD, ALF, and ADF files is 665MB.

Since I posted yesterday, I deleted all the temp files under App Data and was able to do a manual backup.  The next automated backup is scheduled for this evening.

I will post here the results of the scheduled backup.

Re: Scheduled Backup Problem "Failed to log into the database."

I freed up 17GB of space, but the automatic backup still failed.  Message from the task log:  "Errors: Failed to log into the database. The file item could not be opened for reading.
Type: Xceed.FileSystem.DiskFile
FullName: C:\Users\jpurdy\Documents\ACT\ACT Data\Databases\Sales-database files\Attachments\Elahee Webb Updates needed.xlsx
Backup Filename and Path: F:\ACT\ACT! Sales.zip"

The file listed was a document loaded into ACT today.  It opens from within ACT without any problems.

The manual backup worked just fine.

Since the error gives you a specific file, I would look at permissions on that file - ensure it is not read-only.

Also remove the file and test the backup. Successful, or fail on a different file?

I really like it when magic works.

No other changes were made since two days ago, and I just noticed that the scheduled backup worked just fine.

I also something else new.  Lately - don't know how many weeks or months - whenever I close ACT by clicking on the upper right hand corner, I have had to go to Task Manager and stop ACT before I can restart.  That problem has gone away too.  Don't know if they are related.
